| CVE-2024-42131 | 2 Linux, Redhat | 3 Linux Kernel, Enterprise Linux, Rhel Eus | 2026-01-05 | 4.4 Medium |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm: avoid overflows in dirty throttling logic The dirty throttling logic is interspersed with assumptions that dirty limits in PAGE_SIZE units fit into 32-bit (so that various multiplications fit into 64-bits). If limits end up being larger, we will hit overflows, possible divisions by 0 etc. Fix these problems by never allowing so large dirty limits as they have dubious practical value anyway. For dirty_bytes / dirty_background_bytes interfaces we can just refuse to set so large limits. For dirty_ratio / dirty_background_ratio it isn't so simple as the dirty limit is computed from the amount of available memory which can change due to memory hotplug etc. So when converting dirty limits from ratios to numbers of pages, we just don't allow the result to exceed UINT_MAX. This is root-only triggerable problem which occurs when the operator sets dirty limits to >16 TB. | ||||

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Mark bpf prog stack with kmsan_unposion_memory in interpreter mode syzbot reported uninit memory usages during map_{lookup,delete}_elem. ========== BUG: KMSAN: uninit-value in __dev_map_lookup_elem kernel/bpf/devmap.c:441 [inline] BUG: KMSAN: uninit-value in dev_map_lookup_elem+0xf3/0x170 kernel/bpf/devmap.c:796 __dev_map_lookup_elem kernel/bpf/devmap.c:441 [inline] dev_map_lookup_elem+0xf3/0x170 kernel/bpf/devmap.c:796 ____bpf_map_lookup_elem kernel/bpf/helpers.c:42 [inline] bpf_map_lookup_elem+0x5c/0x80 kernel/bpf/helpers.c:38 ___bpf_prog_run+0x13fe/0xe0f0 kernel/bpf/core.c:1997 __bpf_prog_run256+0xb5/0xe0 kernel/bpf/core.c:2237 ========== The reproducer should be in the interpreter mode. The C reproducer is trying to run the following bpf prog: 0: (18) r0 = 0x0 2: (18) r1 = map[id:49] 4: (b7) r8 = 16777216 5: (7b) *(u64 *)(r10 -8) = r8 6: (bf) r2 = r10 7: (07) r2 += -229 ^^^^^^^^^^ 8: (b7) r3 = 8 9: (b7) r4 = 0 10: (85) call dev_map_lookup_elem#1543472 11: (95) exit It is due to the "void *key" (r2) passed to the helper. bpf allows uninit stack memory access for bpf prog with the right privileges. This patch uses kmsan_unpoison_memory() to mark the stack as initialized. This should address different syzbot reports on the uninit "void *key" argument during map_{lookup,delete}_elem. | ||||
| CVE-2024-41013 | 2 Linux, Redhat | 2 Linux Kernel, Enterprise Linux | 2026-01-05 | 7.1 High |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfs: don't walk off the end of a directory data block This adds sanity checks for xfs_dir2_data_unused and xfs_dir2_data_entry to make sure don't stray beyond valid memory region. Before patching, the loop simply checks that the start offset of the dup and dep is within the range. So in a crafted image, if last entry is xfs_dir2_data_unused, we can change dup->length to dup->length-1 and leave 1 byte of space. In the next traversal, this space will be considered as dup or dep. We may encounter an out of bound read when accessing the fixed members. In the patch, we make sure that the remaining bytes large enough to hold an unused entry before accessing xfs_dir2_data_unused and xfs_dir2_data_unused is XFS_DIR2_DATA_ALIGN byte aligned. We also make sure that the remaining bytes large enough to hold a dirent with a single-byte name before accessing xfs_dir2_data_entry. | ||||

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/pseries: Enforce hcall result buffer validity and size plpar_hcall(), plpar_hcall9(), and related functions expect callers to provide valid result buffers of certain minimum size. Currently this is communicated only through comments in the code and the compiler has no idea. For example, if I write a bug like this: long retbuf[PLPAR_HCALL_BUFSIZE]; // should be PLPAR_HCALL9_BUFSIZE plpar_hcall9(H_ALLOCATE_VAS_WINDOW, retbuf, ...); This compiles with no diagnostics emitted, but likely results in stack corruption at runtime when plpar_hcall9() stores results past the end of the array. (To be clear this is a contrived example and I have not found a real instance yet.) To make this class of error less likely, we can use explicitly-sized array parameters instead of pointers in the declarations for the hcall APIs. When compiled with -Warray-bounds[1], the code above now provokes a diagnostic like this: error: array argument is too small; is of size 32, callee requires at least 72 [-Werror,-Warray-bounds] 60 | plpar_hcall9(H_ALLOCATE_VAS_WINDOW, retbuf, | ^ ~~~~~~ [1] Enabled for LLVM builds but not GCC for now. See commit 0da6e5fd6c37 ("gcc: disable '-Warray-bounds' for gcc-13 too") and related changes. | ||||

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jfs: xattr: fix buffer overflow for invalid xattr When an xattr size is not what is expected, it is printed out to the kernel log in hex format as a form of debugging. But when that xattr size is bigger than the expected size, printing it out can cause an access off the end of the buffer. Fix this all up by properly restricting the size of the debug hex dump in the kernel log. | ||||

| CVE-2024-35949 | 2 Fedoraproject, Linux | 2 Fedora, Linux Kernel | 2026-01-05 | 7.8 High |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: make sure that WRITTEN is set on all metadata blocks We previously would call btrfs_check_leaf() if we had the check integrity code enabled, which meant that we could only run the extended leaf checks if we had WRITTEN set on the header flags. This leaves a gap in our checking, because we could end up with corruption on disk where WRITTEN isn't set on the leaf, and then the extended leaf checks don't get run which we rely on to validate all of the item pointers to make sure we don't access memory outside of the extent buffer. However, since 732fab95abe2 ("btrfs: check-integrity: remove CONFIG_BTRFS_FS_CHECK_INTEGRITY option") we no longer call btrfs_check_leaf() from btrfs_mark_buffer_dirty(), which means we only ever call it on blocks that are being written out, and thus have WRITTEN set, or that are being read in, which should have WRITTEN set. Add checks to make sure we have WRITTEN set appropriately, and then make sure __btrfs_check_leaf() always does the item checking. This will protect us from file systems that have been corrupted and no longer have WRITTEN set on some of the blocks. This was hit on a crafted image tweaking the WRITTEN bit and reported by KASAN as out-of-bound access in the eb accessors. The example is a dir item at the end of an eb. | CVE-2024-26844 | 1 Linux | 1 Linux Kernel | 2026-01-05 | 5.5 Medium |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: Fix WARNING in _copy_from_iter Syzkaller reports a warning in _copy_from_iter because an iov_iter is supposedly used in the wrong direction. The reason is that syzcaller managed to generate a request with a transfer direction of SG_DXFER_TO_FROM_DEV. This instructs the kernel to copy user buffers into the kernel, read into the copied buffers and then copy the data back to user space. Thus the iovec is used in both directions. Detect this situation in the block layer and construct a new iterator with the correct direction for the copy-in. | ||||

| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: perf/core: Bail out early if the request AUX area is out of bound When perf-record with a large AUX area, e.g 4GB, it fails with: #perf record -C 0 -m ,4G -e arm_spe_0// -- sleep 1 failed to mmap with 12 (Cannot allocate memory) and it reveals a WARNING with __alloc_pages(): ------------[ cut here ]------------ WARNING: CPU: 44 PID: 17573 at mm/page_alloc.c:5568 __alloc_pages+0x1ec/0x248 Call trace: __alloc_pages+0x1ec/0x248 __kmalloc_large_node+0xc0/0x1f8 __kmalloc_node+0x134/0x1e8 rb_alloc_aux+0xe0/0x298 perf_mmap+0x440/0x660 mmap_region+0x308/0x8a8 do_mmap+0x3c0/0x528 vm_mmap_pgoff+0xf4/0x1b8 ksys_mmap_pgoff+0x18c/0x218 __arm64_sys_mmap+0x38/0x58 invoke_syscall+0x50/0x128 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0x58/0x188 do_el0_svc+0x34/0x50 el0_svc+0x34/0x108 el0t_64_sync_handler+0xb8/0xc0 el0t_64_sync+0x1a4/0x1a8 'rb->aux_pages' allocated by kcalloc() is a pointer array which is used to maintains AUX trace pages. The allocated page for this array is physically contiguous (and virtually contiguous) with an order of 0..MAX_ORDER. If the size of pointer array crosses the limitation set by MAX_ORDER, it reveals a WARNING. So bail out early with -ENOMEM if the request AUX area is out of bound, e.g.: #perf record -C 0 -m ,4G -e arm_spe_0// -- sleep 1 failed to mmap with 12 (Cannot allocate memory) | ||||
